Maybe this is an age-old question, but …

The alt-attribute of the leadimage is delivered by the title of the object it is part of as far as i can tell by trying.
The leadimage caption plays no role in that. And it should not, I’d say.

An additional field for the leadimage‘s alternative-text would do the trick but changes the known behavior.
(Plus the leadimage.pt would need to be updated to give that alternative text to the image-scaling mechanism)

Is there a deeper thought in not doing it that way?
Why is the objects title used as the alternative text, when it has no descriptive purpose for the leadimage.

This might be an enhancement on accessibility.
