Is it possible to update mapping for "langdetect" type?

I have included a field with type langdetect. And languages contains list of languages that we currently support. If I have to add a new language to it later, would I be able to update the mapping? I tried doing this with latest version of langdetect plugin and ES 5.4. But looks like it doesn't work, it didn't give me any error either. Settings with new analyzer got updated successfully. The fields with analyzer_fieldname got created, but the existing langdetect type which had language list did not get updated to include the new language.
