When I do "Pull a distribution from CPAN" the author name is pretty much the last thing I remember of a module... :)

Instinctively, I usally type Module::Name::Thingie, because that's what I use with cpan or when using a module.

Ideally, it should be possible to type in a module in more or less all variations - filename, authorname, real name, module::name ...

Agreed. I really want a more DWIM interface there.

It gets a little tricky because module names are ambiguous. I need to figure out the UI for narrowing it down to a specific release, depending on whether the input is a distribution, module, or file name.

For what it is worth, the autocomplete will offer suggestions based on partial author and/or distribution name matches. So, for example, if you just type "moose" it can help you find what you want.
